| San Simeon is located on the coast between Los Angeles and San Francisco on California State Highway 1. On the coast north of San Simeon are Elephant Seal viewing areas. Apparently, the Elephant Seals stop by here on the annual migration up and down the coast. We originally didn't set out to find Elephant Seals. We were just wandering up the coast from Hearst Castle and wondered what all the excitement was about. | |
|
Above - left - The viewing area had a number of on-lookers. It looks more crowded than it was. We didn't have trouble finding a parking spot. Above right - Very few males look after large numbers of females. Right - Two males challenge a dominate male. Lots of huffing and puffing. Below right - What's not to love? Below left - Scratching that itch. |
